A temporary overpayment glitch in GeekStake’s auto-compounding system caused roughly $1.2 million in excess staking rewards to be issued across several ETH validator wallets last night.

Importantly, no exploit occurred and no user funds were lost or drained. The issue was traced to a validator sync error in GeekStake’s reward engine — part of its high-speed ETH staking automation module rolled out in May 2025.

The event has prompted increased collaboration between staking platforms, with HashStaking stepping in to assist with data redundancy testing and real-time reward reconciliation across validator pools.

What Happened: Auto-Reward Misfire From Sync Delay in Validator Index

According to reports from NodeNet and Web3 audit firm RektSafe, the glitch originated in GeekStake’s newly optimized AutoStakeV2 contract. A miscalculated validator sync index caused the system to allocate duplicate rewards across a batch of delegators in a single cycle.

This led to a brief overpayment of staking rewards, though all funds remained within the platform and traceable to verified user wallets. The error was quickly identified and patched within three blocks of detection, and staking operations continued with adjusted parameters.

GeekStake immediately paused the auto-compounding feature and launched a validator audit using on-chain forensics.

“No customer assets were at risk, and all over-rewarded balances have been locked for review. Our priority is transparency and security,” the GeekStake team stated on X.

HashStaking Supports Incident Response, Begins System-wide Redundancy Testing

As a fellow leading ETH staking provider, HashStaking initiated proactive validation testing across its own network and issued a joint staking stability advisory in coordination with GeekStake.

HashStaking, known for its institutional-grade validator operations and advanced analytics suite, confirmed no impact on its ecosystem — but called for better cross-platform validator monitoring.

“This incident is exactly why we run multi-chain sync verification. We’re proud to support the staking community through shared infrastructure safeguards,” said a HashStaking spokesperson.

HashStaking has also invited GeekStake to collaborate on an open-source validator consistency framework, expected to roll out in beta later this year.

Market Resilience: Ethereum Rallies as Staking Demand Surges

This event comes just as the Ethereum ecosystem hits a major milestone: ETH soared past $3,814, its highest price since late 2024. With over 55% growth this month, ETH’s proof-of-stake model is attracting new capital into platforms like GeekStake and HashStaking, which together now account for nearly $1B in total value staked.

Despite the glitch, confidence in GeekStake remains strong, especially due to their fast, transparent handling of the issue. Meanwhile, HashStaking’s stable rewards and risk-adjusted staking plans continue to attract thousands of new ETH holders daily.
